Getting Started
Celebration point allocations allow you to automatically recognize and reward employees on special occasions such as joining the company, onboarding milestones, birthdays and work anniversaries. These allocations help ensure key life and career moments are celebrated consistently across your organization.
Admins can configure multiple rules for each celebration type, with points and eligibility tailored to organizational budget and culture. Each rule contributes to your annual estimated spend, providing visibility into future costs.
When to Use This Feature
- Welcoming new hires with points on their start date or onboarding milestones
- Automatically celebrating employee birthdays across the organization
- Recognizing tenure milestones like work anniversaries with increasing rewards over time
- Creating different rules for specific teams, regions, or departments
- Scaling recognition programs to ensure no milestone is missed
Step-by-Step Instructions

Examples of celebration types
- Welcome & onboarding milestones: Common practice is to allocate $5 in points as a welcome gift. For onboarding, you can set allocations at 7, 30, 60, and 90 days (e.g., 10, 20, 30, 40 points).
- Birthdays: A typical allocation equals $10 in points. Users must have their birth month and date set in their profile to be eligible. (Birth year remains private)
-
Work anniversaries: Recognition grows with tenure. A common structure is:
- Year 1: $10 in points
- Year 2: $15 in points
- Year 3: $20 in points
- Year 4: $25 in points
- Year 5: $50 in points
- Year 10+: $100 in points
- Year 15+: $250 in points
- Year 20+: $500 in points
Helpful Tips & Ideas
- Ensure employee profiles include a start date and birthday; otherwise, they won’t receive celebration points.
- Use default point amounts for anniversaries and add overrides for specific milestone years (e.g., a larger award at Year 5 or Year 10).
- Consider creating different rules with targeted audiences (teams) if budgets or cultural practices vary.
- Monitor the Estimated annual spend to keep celebration costs aligned with your recognition budget.
- Pair celebration points with automated cards to make the recognition more meaningful.
FAQs
Q: What happens if a user doesn’t have a start date or birthday in their profile?
A: They will not receive celebration points. Make sure your HR records are up to date.
Q: Can I set different anniversary amounts for specific years?
A: Yes. You can add overrides to adjust allocations for milestone years while keeping a default value for all other years.
Q: Are welcome points included in the annual spend estimate?
A: No. Points for welcome and onboarding events are excluded because the number of new hires may vary throughout the year.
Q: Can I apply multiple birthday rules?
A: Yes. You can create different birthday rules for different teams or groups if needed.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Problem: Employees are not receiving birthday or anniversary points
- Verify that the employee’s profile includes a valid start date or birthday
- Ensure the employee's start date and birthdate are accurate and in the past
- Confirm that the rule applies to their team or the entire organization.
Problem: A new rule isn’t triggering
- Confirm eligibility settings include the correct teams.
- Remember that onboarding and welcome points won’t appear in annual spend projections.
Problem: Anniversary allocations are incorrect
- Review override settings for specific years.
- Make sure the default allocation isn’t set to 0 unless you intend points to be given only at override years.
